Ole Miss 101

Headed to Ole Miss? Congratulations! We know it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to maintain that GPA and get a degree. At Highland Square we provide the perfect home base to thrive during your college career! From our experience, here are some tips that can help lead to academic success.
It’s OK to listen to input from your parents, siblings or best friends, but ultimately, you are the one responsible for deciding what classes to take, friends to make and events to partake. Nothing says you’re growing up like the ability to make — and be responsible for — all your own decisions.
Make your own decisions...all of them
The people you live with while attending Ole Miss are going through similar experiences, and can be your safety net. Highland Square provides the perfect atmosphere to foster meaningful relationships with your friends and neighbors. We're known for bringing our residents together for pool parties, tailgates, the annual crawfish boil, and the famous free frank Friday!
Get to know your neighbors
It may be your apartment, a quiet space in the Ole Miss library, or Highland Square's dedicated study lounge, but find a place that works best for you to get your work done - while avoiding distractions.
Find the ideal study spot
Many students attending college face homesickness and a feeling of not quite belonging. A solution? Join one of over 250 Ole Miss student organizations, clubs, sororities, fraternities and sports teams! You'll make new friends, learn new skills, and feel more connected to the University of Mississippi.
Get involved at Ole Miss
Attending Ole Miss is a mixture of social and academic experiences. Try not to tip the balance too far in either direction! We like the "work hard, play hard" mentality. Highland Square understands the right balance for students and fosters both social and academic activities.
Seek a balance
A safe college experience is a happy experience. Learn your way around campus, be alert when traveling in groups, and designate a driver when on the roads, especially if drinking is involved. At Highland Square, our courtesy officers are on-site and available to residents after hours for their needs.
Safety first
We all have lazy days, we all stay up late studying, and we all experience those Friday mornings after Thursday nights out. Still, these are not good excuses to wear PJ's in a public setting! Studies have shown that exhibiting some professionalism in class leads to a better learning environment, students being better prepared for class, and students being more respectful of one another.
Don't wear pajamas to class
It's important to set aside time and activities that help you relax and take the stress out of your school week. Whether it's learning new poses in our yoga studio, working on your fitness in our Iron Clad gym, or watching movies in The Showroom, Highland Square can help you be good to yourself!
Make time for you
More fun that you ever imagined. So much fun that you’ll have stories to tell your parents, friends, children and grandchildren. That’s what college is really about, taking the last steps of childhood and first steps of adulthood, and learning from both.
